For anyone who is interested, i have found an easier work around that doesnt affect the layout of the overall pages.
When Creating or Editing the Glossary items, After initial writing of the glossary item view in source and remove any special layout and of course the <p>'s from the source then submit.
The inital submit shouldnt add the <p>'s back in or any additional code. Further editing will add these in.

I have tested this on a number of items and they seem to display fine.

e.g.

<b>Active Directory</b> (<b>AD</b>) is a technology created by Microsoft that provides a variety of network services, including:
<b>* Directory services</b>
<b>* Kerberos (a computer network authentication protocol)</b> based authentication
<b>* Domain Named (DNS)</b> based naming and other network information
Using the same database, for use primarily in Windows environments. Active Directory also allows administrators to assign policies, deploy software, and apply critical updates to an organization. Active Directory stores information and settings in a central database.

Hi,
i too am suffering from this problem. Most of our viewers will be IE6 and a few IE7 + FireFox.

The issue is if you do the fix as suggested you lose out on the ability to keep most of the formatting and spacing as required.

Has anyone come up with any other work arounds for this or anything?

Regards

Hi all,
I was curious if its possible to include the search feature from a page outside of the knowledgebase?

To further explain:
kb is located at http://url/kb/index.php

I have a page : http://url/page.php
I would like to add a search box here, and have it direct the output into the kb.
How would this be accomplished?
Thank you

I'm just testing out the new KBPublisher for our company and installation was successful. Now I'm adding some articles just to see how it treats it. I've successfully added an article, however on the Public View, I got some strange information for the description/summary of my article.

It's displays the following below my title:

v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape...

What is causing this? I cannot work out what is wrong here. Please help.

Yes, the problem seems to be that the glossary encapsulates the glossary entries in <p> and </p>.

The problem is that when entering the markup in the article editor, the <enter> stroke actually adds a <p>. So, there is basically an open P inside an open <p> and IE can not handle this.
I edited the html in the article to use <div> instead of <p>.

Evgeny also helpfully suggested this:
For quick fix:

There is FCK configuration in file
admin/tools/FCKeditor/fckconfig.js

see FCKConfig.EnterMode = 'p' ;

Try to set it to div.

However, you will have to manually edit the files created with existing templates and also likely the templates themselves.

But this does seem to "solve" the issue.

I have a full glossary set up. Articles containing these terms highlight properly. However, when I click on them the bubbles pop up but there is no content in them. This seems to only happen in IE, but in version 6 and 7.

The same process in firefox and opera returns the desired result.
An error is generated in the lower left corner of IE, it specifies LINE 40 Char 2; Error: Unknown runtime error.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

I am attempting to customize the article workflow from the default. I have added additional article states to arrive at the following:

1. Authoring
2. First Technical Review
3. Draft
4. Editing
5. Final Technical Review
6. Published

Unfortunately, the approval notifications are not working as I believe they should. It appears the triggers are hard coded into the database, such that the only time a notification is sent for approval is when I set the status to 'Editing'. I think this is because this item used to be the original 'Pending approval'.

I'm aware that there is some hard coding in the database because I had to change a field manually to get the default status for new articles to be my new status of 'Authoring'.

Does anyone have any similar experience or advise on this?

It would be interesting to have a small (optional) header at the top of any download category that can be manipulated by the FCKEditor or have the download description able to modified by the FCkEditor. Plain text removing white spaces is not always quite helpful when trying to enter a blurb of information about the download in a "clean" manner.

The problem we are running into is that we need to include a brief instruction on how to install certain files in a specific order per category. Even though the downloads are listed in the order they should be run, our users sometimes get confused. Currently, there is no way of typing this out anywhere other than using the description section of each download.

Re the imaging ... we take your point, and will consider it in future designs, but we actually see this as a feature of the system rather than a liability, because it separates the graphics from the text and allows true single-sourcing. The people who see these images are the editors and contributors (that is, the people who can edit the page), not the users who are reading the articles, so what you are saying is that you want to control what graphics the people writing the articles can see.

And the licensing ... as you know, you can purchase a license to remove the 'powered by' so that readers of the site don't see it, but no, you cannot remove the 'powered by' in the administration area. We'll send you a separate email re this one.

Regards

Hi Karen,

Many thanks for long reply. I think in such way, better I put more effort on backup from start.

As regarding to your KB system. When you going to release new version? Any chances it come with document version tracking and better permission control on user image upload as I mentioned from begining? Please refer here.

>> Is there any way to force image uploading to the permitted Categories?
>Sorry, no such way.
Sad the hear that. Just imagine, you can assign permission for different author/editor to manage different categories in knowledge base. But when comes to editing mode, they can browse other categories' images/files theoretically which he/she shouldn't be accessible, view or manipulate?

Final issue, about the license on KB system. We are a IT arm company of a group of companied. We provide every IT solution for our subsidiaries, in house or outsourcing. But normally, we do not want our users to know where to system come from or some business issue. So, is there any option we can do that on your KB system? I understand that we can purchase "Powered BY" remover but that is not what my boss wanted. Please advise. You can email me to kmf165@gmail.com

Thanks

(Ran out of space at the end, sorry. As I said, it's a long post. :).)

So, to recap:

-- If you lose the files in the kb_file directory, then you have lost all the files added using the Download option of KBPublisher. But ... if you still have your database you know which categories these files go into, and you will know the file names. And of course, you still have your articles.

-- If your database is corrupted, go back to your last database back-up, because that's the quickest way to get the information you require. Or go talk to your database administrator (or yourself, if that's you, and see if you can at least get the appropriate details out of the table.)

Your concern that if you lose your database you lose the information about what's where in the kb_files directory is a valid one, but would be negated by having a backup of the database. I would recommend that the first priority is a good backup plan for your My-SQL database, and a way of getting that information back as quickly as you can.

In any database-driven system your data is only as safe as your last database backup.

And apologies in turn for my tardiness. I thought I had turned on email for items I was tracking, but it turns out ...

This is a long answer, and it's actually worth an article in the knowledgebase, because it's quite important. I'll see if we can add one. Bear with me while I recap what is stored where in KBPublisher.

Articles first.

Articles are not stored in the kb_file directory. Articles are stored in a My-SQL table Another My-SQL table stores category information. So, for articles, everything is in the tables. Hence if your database is corrupted, you're in trouble. You would want to hope that that you have a backup.

[This is not specific to KBPublisher by the way. Large payroll/office systems like SAP and Seibel, down to smaller personal databases like say, WordPress, work the same way. It's also not specific to databases. If you're using files rather than a database (like those in the kb_file directory) you need to back them up too.]

Back up your database regularly. Your system is only as good as the data you have.

Assuming that you have a backup, you (or your database administrator, if you have one) can get the articles out of the tables by running a simple My-SQL query that gets the category listing and articles in that category.

So what about the kb_file directory?

The kb_file directory contains the files that you (or your users) have uploaded using the Downloads option in KBPublisher. As well as the downloads in this directory, there is a table in My-SQL that contains information about when it was downloaded, which category (or categories) it is stored in and so on.

These downloaded files are all stored in the one directory, as you surmised earlier. This is because you would not normally go to the directory to get information about where the files should go, you use the database to get it for you. One folder can hold a lot of files. [Search Google for "maximum number of files in a folder".]
