We have added a separate top level category filter, so at least the user doesn't have to scroll through as much in the list to get to the sub-categories. As for two sets of categories to search on ... we'll consider that, but I can't see it happening. We will also look at ways to make the user aware that they can select multiple items (without having to read the manual). Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the Advanced Search page mostly. We can live with the navigation on the public page as is but to make the Advanced Search easier for visitors it would really help us to be able to configure the number of category windows. As it is, if an inexperienced user - and most of our visitors aren't particularly computer literate - used the advanced search page we doubt they would figure out they can select multiple items from the category list, especially with so long a scroll, they might not even figure that part out. Writing out full instructions on the page is not an optimal solution for us.. We already have a tree structure like you describe. We have a "Topics" main category with children and the occasional grand child all together at the top of the list and "Places" as a main category with children below the "Topics" list. But your answer actually touches on what we wanted to do on the public pages. I just haven't figured out how to have the knowledgebase Left menu format get dropped in to the left sidebar of our wrapper along with our other links.. I managed to tell the knowledgebase to use our wrapper. So now I have to format the page to accommodate the knowledgebase layout and see how I might use your menu format. If you're talking Public area, have you tried using sub-categories with a left menu (and mirror categories)? i.e. <ul> <li>Set the View Format to Left menu in the Knowledgebase tab of the Settings menu</li> <li>Create two main categories--Events and Location and create sub-categories for the different types of event beneath Events and sub-categories for the different locations beneath Location</li> <li>Create your articles in sub-categories beneath, say, Events, and then mirror each article in the appropriate location sub-category beneath the Location</li> </ul> The user would then use the left menu to find either a location or an event and could click on it quickly to display the result. We have a long list of categories, and the list is such that it would be better to split it into two category trees. So our list of, say, events and places, instead of all being in one long list in one window, we would like to see as events in one category window and places in another category window. Then users could either choose an event or a place or both and search. I cannot find any documentation on how to do this.
