Marking articles as private does two things:
- First, users cannot read the article without logging in
- Second, it allows you to further restrict access so that only certain users can read the article, even if they are logged in.
You can mark a single article as private or a whole category.
To restrict articles so that users must log on to read them:
- Edit the article or category
- Check private
- Click OK.
To restrict articles so that only nominated users can read them:
- Edit the article or category
- Check private
- This brings up another option, Access for selected roles only.
By default, this is set to None, which means that the article is private, but all users can read it once they have logged on
- Select which roles users must belong to in order to read the article
- Click OK.
After this, only users in the nominated role(s) can read the article. Depending on how KBPublisher has been set up, other users will either not see the article at all, or they will see they article but it will have a key beside it and they will not be able to read it.
