Extensively customizable

  • You can change KBPublisher as much or as little as you want. The comprehensive Settings menu means that you can change it without having to delve into the code.

Language support

  • Not only that, you can set your own language options for a total user experience.

You control user access

Let the users see as much or as little as you want them to see

  • Want to restrict the site to registered members who must be logged on? Want to let everyone to read it? You can. What's more, you can make some parts of your site private and other parts public.

Role-based access allows you to further target articles

  • You can assign users to roles, and then set up categories/articles so that only users in nominated roles can read designated articles.

Approve users or allow automatic access

  • You can set the knowledgebase up so that users who register are automatically approved, or you can set it up so that an administrator must approve them before they can get access.

Remote authentication

  • You can use remote authentication to integrate your organization's authentication system with KBPublisher.

Using the knowledgebase

Easy to access

  • Use any browser to access. Click on an article to read it. Click on a file to open it.

Users can interact with articles

  • Users can not only view articles and files, they can send a link to a friend, they can print them, and they can rate articles and add comments.

Help users to find what they want

  • MySQL full-text searching is provided. Not only that, as users request feedback the Quick Response feature highlights the five articles most likely to answer their question.
  • All PDF and text based files are searchable.

RSS

  • Users can set up RSS feeds to receive articles from the knowledgebase.

Creating articles is easy

Adding an article is as simple as clicking 'Add new article'--provided you have author privileges, of course

  • The powerful WYSIWYG editor lets you add text quickly and without having to worry about code or formatting.
  • It's easy to add links to other articles or files
  • Articles can be displayed in more than one category, which means you truly do have a single source for content.

Pre-defined article templates help maintain a consistent look and feel

  • Want all your process documents in one format and all your concept documents in another? Use article templates to set up the base design and authors can select the template they wish to use.

Article templates can be used for boilerplate text

  • Do you have information such as disclaimers or contact information that must be repeated in every article? Create a template containing that information and link it into the article. If you need to change the disclaimer or address information all you have to do is update the template and the change is reflected in all articles.

Publish articles direct or approve them first

  • Do you want authors to publish direct to the knowledgebase or do you want someone to approve the article before users see it? KBPublisher lets you do either, and both. You can set trusted authors up to publish articles immediately, and set up other authors so that an editor has to approve articles before users see them.

The knowledgebase isn't just about articles

You can upload files as well

  • If you already have documents relating to the topics you want in your knowledgebase you don't have to convert them to articles. You can upload them as files and users can open and read them. You can link these files to articles if you wish.

Glossary

  • You can add definitions to a glossary. Glossary terms are highlighted in articles and the user simply has to click on the term to read the definition.

Bulk actions

Transfer articles from other systems

  • It's easy to transfer HTML documents you have created in other systems over to KBPublisher using the bulk import facility.

Import users

  • Likewise you can import users in bulk from other systems by using the bulk import facility.

Bulk import files

  • You can upload files already on your server into the Files area.

Bulk updates of categories, users and articles

  • Suppose you have 20 articles that you want to move to a different category. You don't have to change each one individually. All you have to do is select the 20 articles and use the bulk update option to move them. Or maybe you have 10 users whose status needs to be changed to 'active'. The bulk update option allows you to make all ten users active at once.

Easy administration

Five default privileges

  • KBPublisher comes with five default user privileges (contributor, author, editor, moderator and administrator) that cover the basic tasks you will need to administer your knowledgebase.

Targeted requests mean that the right person deals with an enquiry or article

  • You can nominate supervisors for individual categories and these are the people who approve articles or moderate comments for that category.
  • Likewise, you can nominate subject owners for feedback, and these are the people who will receive email enquiries from users about that subject.

Extensive customization

Easy customization from the Settings menu

  • You don't need to know code to change settings in the knowledgebase. You can customize pretty much anything from the Settings.

Don't like the emails? Change them

  • Text on automatic emails sent to and from KBPublisher can be altered as you wish.

Let the users do as much or as little as you want them to

  • Don't want users to rate articles? That's fine. Turn it off. Don't want them to comment on articles? That's fine too, turn it off. Only allow them to comment or rate if they are logged on? You can set the knowledgebase that way too.

Default privileges and templates aren't the end of it

  • Just because KBPublisher comes with preset defaults doesn't mean that's all you have to use. You can create your own privileges, category types, statuses, templates, feedback subjects, roles and more, so that the knowledgebase truly reflects the way you work.
